Habanos S.A. reports sales of $537 million

On Monday, Habanos S.A. announced its financial results for 2018. Highlights:

• Income: 537 million dollars
• Growth: 7,4%
• Top five countries: Spain, China, France, Germany and Cuba
• By region: Europe (53%), Americas (18%), Asia-Pacific (15%) and Africa/Middle East (14%)

Last year, Habanos S.A. reported generating $500 million, an increase of $55 million on 2016. "2018 was, once again, a successful year for Habano," said Inocente Núñez and Luis Sánchez-Harguindey Pardo de Vera, co-presidents of Habanos, S.A., in a press release, "Because sales continued to grow in different markets, both in volume and value, while maintaining our estimated market share of around 70% in volume in the markets where we sell our brands." The company affirms its belief that "450 million premium cigars were sold worldwide in 2018. This number seems to indicate the total number of cigars sold, not just Cuban cigars. Cuba's Oficina Nacional de Estadistica e Información last reported that the country exported 91.4 million "tabaco torcido in 2016. Habanos S.A. is the global entity responsible for sales and marketing of Cuban cigars worldwide. It is a joint venture between the Cuban government and Imperial Brands, plc.
