History of Delord
Founded in 1893 by Prosper Delord, the distillery began its history with a passion for Armagnac. Prosper, along with his two sons, laid the foundations for a business that would be handed down from generation to generation. Today, Delord remains an emblematic brand, still rooted in the tradition and expertise of its home region, the Gers.
The Bas-Armagnac terroir
Located in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac region, Delord's vineyards feature distinctive grape varieties such as Baco 22A, Folle-blanche, Ugni blanc and Colombard. These grape varieties contribute to the complex, nuanced aromatic profile of Delord Armagnacs, an attribute sought after by cigar aficionados for their digestif.
Distillation and ageing
Delord perpetuates the use of two traditional Armagnac stills for distillation, ensuring the consistent quality of its eaux-de-vie. With over a thousand oak barrels in use, the house's Armagnacs undergo meticulous ageing, some resting in a dedicated space called Le Paradis, where the oldest vintage dates back to 1900.
Vintage Armagnacs
Delord's vintage tradition takes wine-lovers on a journey through time. Vintage bottles, hand-sealed with wax, can date back to remarkable eras, offering a historic tasting experience. Their complexity and character are often enjoyed alongside fine cigars, creating an unforgettable tasting experience.
Complementarity with cigars
A Delord Armagnac can be the ideal companion to a fine cigar. The deep flavors and woody aromas of Armagnacs blend perfectly with those of finely selected tobaccos. This harmony between cigar and Armagnac creates a symphony of flavors optimal for discerning tasters.
Culture and impact on the cigar world
Delord's contributions to Armagnac have had an undeniable impact on cigar culture. Connoisseurs recognize the added value of a quality digestif to enrich their cigar experience. Delord has succeeded in combining tradition and innovation, keeping alive the heritage of Bas-Armagnac while adapting to modern tastes.
