Aurensan estate

Our history began at the end of the 19th century, when we founded Domaine d'Aurensan, our family home. Covering more than seven hectares, our family vineyard lies on the rich clay-limestone soils of the TĂ©narĂšze region. We cultivate our vines in accordance with their natural cycles, with particular attention paid to pruning to guarantee the quality of the harvest and the longevity of the vines.

When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, the fruit of a delicate balance between acidity and low sugar content, we pick them to begin the distillation process. Our vinification is an entirely natural process, with no oenological additives such as sulfur or chemical yeasts.

Our cellars, characterized by high humidity, are conducive to the slow, gradual aging of our eaux-de-vie. Our traditional 420-liter barrels, made from oak grown on our estate, give our Armagnacs a distinctive aromatic character. It is from the wood that the eau-de-vie draws the compounds that will mature and blossom over time.

Bottling is done to order, by hand and without filtration, directly from our estate. This process immobilizes the ageing of the eau-de-vie, and the date of this crucial stage is marked on each of our bottles, testifying to the age of the Armagnac and our commitment to preserving its heritage and quality.

Introduction to the Cigar Category Domaine d'Aurensan

The Domaine d'Aurensan, establishing its reputation in Armagnac, evokes through its tradition a connection with the world of cigars, where appellation, terriorism and craftsmanship are equally preeminent. Although the Domaine does not operate directly in the cigar sphere, the secular and detailed aspects of its Armagnac creation offer an interesting parallel to draw enthusiasts into the rich world of cigars.

Land and Origin

Just as the vineyards of Domaine d'Aurensan are carefully tended, the quality of our cigars depends essentially on their geographical origin. The fertile soils of regions such as Vuelta Abajo in Cuba, the Jalapa Valley in Nicaragua or the Cibao Valley in the Dominican Republic are examples of renowned terroirs producing tobaccos with distinct characteristics.

Tobacco types and manufacture

The way tobacco is grown and processed determines the flavor nuances of cigars. Tobacco can be grown in shade or sun, influencing its strength and flavor. After harvest, the tobacco leaves undergo careful curing, aging and controlled fermentation similar to the meticulous winemaking at Domaine d'Aurensan, contributing to their complexity and depth.

Taste profile

Cigar tasting notes vary greatly depending on the combination of leaves used. Some profile earthy, spicy flavors, while others may present lighter, floral notes or even hints of chocolate, coffee and leather, revealing the synergy between the blend of tobaccos and their handcrafted construction.

Construction and Formats

The construction of a cigar, notably the triad of wrapper, binder and filler, plays a crucial role in its tasting experience. Formats such as robusto, thickness and the ability of the wrapper to contain the filler influence combustion and flavor concentration. Just as Domaine d'Aurensan Armagnacs are characterized by maturation in oak casks, a well-crafted cigar reveals the expertise of its torcedor.

Tradition and Innovation

The world of cigars, similar to that of Domaine d'Aurensan, is rooted in tradition while embracing innovation. Ancestral hand-rolling methods are still favored, reflecting a multi-generational heritage, while innovative techniques and blends continue to divide the landscape of flavors offered to aficionados.

Cultural Impact

The impact of cigars on global culture can be seen in its social circles, lounges and rituals. Just as Domaine d'Aurensan Armagnac can mark a moment or a celebration, cigars accompany important events, adding a touch of solemnity and conviviality.
